All around this website people are setting themselves their own individual challenges or goals. So why not use the opportunity to fundraise for a good cause? Our Charities of the Year and our Charities of the Month definitely have social objectives which deserve your support.

So we are delighted that:

our Charity of the Year is UK Youth and

our Charity of the Month is The Trussell Trust.

Charity of the month: The Trussell Trust

The Trussell Trust: Stop UK Hunger logo

The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of food banks and together we provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

In the UK more than 14 million people are living in poverty – including 4.5 million children.

More than 28,000 people volunteer at 1,200 food banks in our network across the country, providing three days’ worth of nutritionally-balanced emergency food to people who have been referred in crisis. Our volunteers also work to help people resolve the crises they face.

Between April 2018 and March 2019, food banks in our network provided a record 1.6 million food supplies to people in crisis, a 19% increase on the previous year.

We know it takes more than food to end hunger. That’s why we bring together the experiences of food banks in our network to challenge the structural economic issues that lock people in poverty.

Last year, we published State of Hunger, the most in-depth study into poverty and the drivers of food bank use in the UK to-date. We know the situation facing thousands of people living in poverty, unable to afford to buy their own food, can change. That’s why evidence such as this is so important and supports our campaign to eventually end the need for food banks in the UK.

Charity of the year: UK Youth

Working across the country for over a century, UK Youth is a leading charity, committed to providing access to appropriate, high quality youth work services in every community. We want to ensure that young people are empowered to build bright futures, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Young people with complex needs and those from disadvantaged backgrounds are being hardest hit by rising inequality and cuts to local services.

Through the UK Youth Movement, we build capacity, unlock funding and a develop a sense of connection with young people and the youth workers who support them. Together we reach 1.6 million young people, offering support, training and access to high quality services.
